Top 7 tips to increase the energy efficiency of the restaurant /kitchen facilities in your camping

Reducing the restaurant’s overall energy consumption lowers utility costs and gives our planet a bit of a (much needed) break. Whether it’s one or the other, recently all over the world restaurants and bars have been adopting energy-saving measures. By drastically cutting down their energy use, some restaurants have managed to reduce significantly their expenses and almost pull it through the COVID19 pandemic. And if you are wondering ‘HOW?’, we’ve put together a list of the main areas you would need to give a thought to if you are considering implementing measures that will reduce the energy consumption in your camping’s restaurant/kitchen facilities.

1. Heating

Research shows that an average of 30 % of the total energy consumed by a restaurant is used for heating. Why not tackle this by optimizing the heating consumption? The GreenTribe experts advise using a smart thermostat with a working schedule and installing sensors on each door/window to prevent energy losses. Also, it is highly recommended to activate the “night setback” feature with different temperatures during the night. 2. Ventilation

The ventilation system is also a hot topic with great potential when it comes to energy saving. The GreenTribe experts advise implementing Energy Management System to use the outside fresh air ventilation for heating/cooling over the night and during the intermediate seasons (spring/autumn). Ask our experts and find out all you need to know about the most efficient ventilation systems here.

3. Hot water

When it comes to water waste, reducing with just a few Celsius degrees the temperatures of the hot water by using a smart thermostat with a working schedule is one of the first measures recommended to be implemented. Another thing you could do is optimizing the water temperature of the dishwashers in order to use the water wisely at the right temperature avoiding unnecessary costs.

4. Freezer’s monitoring

Cooling facilities such as freezers and chillers are sometimes left open by the staff as they are rushing around. Using sensors to monitor and send alerts if doors from freezers and chiller stay open for more than a set amount of time can save you significant excess of energy.

5. Shut down idle equipment

Conserving energy can be as easy as turning off a light switch. Many restaurants waste hundreds of euros per month because they leave idle equipment running. Investing in equipment with smart schedules and smart control technology allows you to start up your appliances exactly when is needed. Find out more about what sort of equipment suits your premises best from the GreenTribe experts here.

6. Reduce ambient temperatures in your kitchen

  • Separate Heating from Cooling Equipment – don’t place your oven next to your freezer because the ambient air will be hotter, making it less efficient as it will be more difficult for the freezer to keep up.
  • Leave Breathing Space – Your freezer needs room to breathe and expel hot air as part of the cooling process. Failing to assure proper ventilation space around the unit will translate into more energy use to stay cool.

7. Changing the light bulbs and refrigerators

The light bulbs must be changed to LED bulbs and the refrigerator should be AA++ rated units.
